Participle Adjectives

-ed and -ing adjective can also be called participle adjectives. They come from the verb plus -ing and -ed and function like an adjective. -ing adjective is the present participle and -ed adjective is the past participle. -ing adjective is used to describe the thing that causes a person to feel a particular way while -ed adjective is used to describe a person's feeling about something. 

-ed and -ing adjective  ក៏យើងអាចហៅថា participle adjective ដែលពួកវាជាគុណនាម ដែលឡើងពីការថែម -ing និង -ed ទៅលើកិរិយាស័ព្ទ។ 

  • -ing adjective​ : មានឈ្មោះថា Present Participle
  • - ed adjective : មានឈ្មោះថា  Past Participle

Present Participle ( -ing Adjective) 

-ing adjective : used to describe something or somebody that makes us feel some ways.

-ing adjective ប្រើដើម្បីនិយាយអំពីអ្វីមួយ ឬនរណាម្នាក់ដែលធ្វើអោយើងមានអារម្មណ៍បែបណាមួយ។  សូមមើល ឧទាហរណ៍ខាងក្រោម៖ 

Ex. Grammar lesson is very boring.  មេរៀនទាក់ទងវេយ្យាករណ៍ គឺវាគួរអោយធុញទ្រាន់ណាស់។ 

boring : -ing adjective ក្នុងឧទាហរណ៍ខាងលើ គឺយើងកំពុងតែពិពត៍នាអំពីមេរៀន វេយ្យាករណ៍ ដែលវាធ្វើអោយយើងមានអារម្មណ៍ធុញ។  ដូចនេះហើយបានជាយើងត្រូវប្រើ គុណនា -ing។ 

Example

  • The movie was boring, so we left early.
  • It was an exciting football match!
  • Running a marathon is very tiring.
  • The ending of the story was surprising.
  • The science experiment was interesting.

Past Participle ( -ed adjective) 

 -ed adjective : used to describe our feeling about something or somebody.

 -ed adjective  ប្រើដើម្បីនិយាយអំពីអារម្មណ៍របស់យើងចំពោះអ្វីមួយ ឬ នរណាម្នាក់។  សូមមើលឧទាហរណ៍ខាងក្រោម៖ 

Ex. I'm so bored because the game is boring. ខ្ញុំមានអរម្មណ៍ធុញណាស់ ពីព្រោះ ហ្គេមនេះវាគួរអោយធុញ។ 

ក្នុងឧទាហរណ៍ខាងលើ ខ្ញុំពិពត៍នាអំពីអារម្មណ៍របស់ខ្ញុំចំពោះហ្គេម ដូចនេះបានជាយើងប្រើគុណនាម -ed (bored) ហើយហ្គែមដែលវាធ្វើអោយខ្ញុំធុញ មានន័យថាវាធ្វើអោយប៉ះពាល់អារម្មណ៍ ខ្ញុំ ដូចនេះយើប្រើគុណនាម -ing ( boring) ។ 

Example

  • I was bored during the long meeting.
  • She felt excited about her birthday party.
  • He looked tired after running the marathon.
  • We were surprised by the sudden rain.
  • The children were interested in the science experiment.

Tips to use -ed & -ing adjectives

  • Something or somebody that make us feel some ways, use : -ing adjective
  • Describe our feeling about something or somebody, used : -ed adjective

Common mistake

I'm so bored because my classmates are very noisy. 
The sentence above is not correct because I am describing my feeling about my noisy classmates so I have to -ed adjective. So we can correct the sentence above as below.
  • I'm so bored because my classmates are so noisy. or
  • I'm so bored because my classmates are so boring.
