Acid rain is a kind of rain that can harm nature. It is not safe like normal rain. Acid rain is caused by polluted air. Cars, factories, and power plants release smoke and gases into the sky. These gases mix with clouds. When it rains, the rain becomes acidic. This is called acid rain.

Acid rain looks like normal rain. You cannot see the difference. But it can cause problems.
Acid rain can harm trees and plants. Plants need healthy soil to grow. Acid rain can wash away important nutrients in the soil. When plants do not get enough nutrients, they become weak.
Some trees may lose their leaves or even die.

Acid rain can also fall into, ponds, streams, rivers and lakes. When this happens, the water becomes too acidic. Fish and small water animals may get sick or die. Fish eggs may not hatch. This can interrupt the food chain in the water.

Acid rain can also damage buildings and statues. The acid slowly eats away stone and metal.

Old buildings can become cracked and worn.

Even acid rain is harmful for the environment, we can help reduce or stop it. We can ride bikes, walk, or use buses instead of cars. We can turn off lights when we do not need them. Factories can use cleaner energy like solar or hydro energy to make less pollution to the air.

When we keep the air clean, that means our planet earth is healthy. Clean air means safe rain, happy plants, and healthy animals.
