A verb is simply an action done by a person. It is the foundation specifically for English learners at the very beginner level. They need to be able to describe the action that they do with their parts of the bodies. In this lesson, you will be learning essential verbs used with part of the head, hands and legs with simple English explanations, examples, Khmer translations and practice.
Eye Verbs
See : notice something, ឃើញ
Example : If we open our eyes, we see things around us.
Look : Use your eyes to see something មើល
Example : Look! The sky is very dark.
Watch Look at something for some time
Example: My grandparents always watch TV before to go to bed.
Stare : Look at something for a long time សំឡក់
Example : Don't stare at me like this. I'm so shy.
Glance : Take a quick look ក្រឡេកមើលឆភ្លែត
Example : ROZA balanced at her watch to check the time.
Peek : Look secretly or quickly លួចមើល
Example : She peeked through the window to see what was going on.
Gaze : Look steadily, often with interest សំឡឹងមើលដោយការសរសើ
Example : The tourists are gazing at the incredible Angkor Wat Temple.
Observe : Watch carefully អង្កេត ឬសង្កេត
Example : I like to observe my plants.
Notice : See and pay attention to something កត់សំគាល់
Example : Do you notice something weird in the water right there?
Blink Open and close your eyes quickly ព្រិចភ្នែក
Example : We blink around 15 to 20 times per minutes.
Wink : Close one eye quickly ញាក់ចិញ្ចើម
Example : She winked at me and I was so shy.
Scan : Look over something quickly អានលឿន
Example : Please scan the passage and answer the questions.
Basic Mouth Verbs
Speak : Say words or talk. Ex. I can speak English and Khmer very well.
Talk : Have a conversation.
Example: What are they talking about?
Say : Tell or express something.
Example : can you say something please?
Shout : Say something very loudly.
Example : Kids love shouting much.
Whisper : Speak in a very soft voice.
Example : We wisher because we don't want other people know.
Mumble : Speak in a low or unclear voice.
Example : Please don't mumble. Speak clearly because I cannot hear you.
Smile : Move your mouth to show you are happy.
Example : I often smile when I meet people.
Laugh : Make sounds because you think something is funny.
Example : We laugh when we are told a fun joke.
Kiss : Touch your lips to someone or something as a sign of love. Example : She always kisses her kids before they go to school
Lick : Pass your tongue over something. He licked the ice cream. Example : When eating an ice cream, people don't bite but lick.
Bite : Use your teeth to cut or break something.
Example : Sometimes, I bite my nail.
