Used to

Used to : is used to talk about what we regularly did in the past and stop doing in the present or we can just say that it is used to talk about the past habit that we no longer do it anymore in the present. Used to បកប្រែរថា ធ្លាប់ យើងប្រើវាដើម្បីនិយាយអំពីអ្វីដែល យើងធ្លាប់ធ្វើកាលពីមុន ហើយ ឈប់ធ្វើក្នុងពេលបច្ចុប្បន្ន។ សូមមើលឧទាហរណ៍ខាងក្រោម។

I used to play toys when I was 5 years old. ខ្ញុំធ្លាប់លេង បៃឡុកបៃឡ កាលពីខ្ញុំអាយុ៥ឆ្នាំ។

In the example above, it means that I played toys when I was 5 years but now I don't play toys anymore in the present. It is just my past habit that I no longer do now. 

ក្នុងឧទាហរណ៍ខាងលើមានន័យថា៖ សកម្មភាពលេងបៃឡុកបៃឡ វាជាទម្លាប់របស់ខ្ញុំកាលពីនៅអាយុ៥ឆ្នាំ តែបច្ចុប្បន្ននេះ ខ្ញុំឈប់លេងវាទៀតហើយ។

Didn't use to : Is contrast from " used to". It is used to talk about the activities or habits we didn't do in the past but we do in the present. "Didn't use to" បកប្រែរថាមិនធ្លាប់ យើងប្រើវាដើម្បីនិយាយអំពី សកម្មភាព ឬ ទម្លាប់ទាំងឡាយដែលយើងមិនធ្លាប់ធ្វើ ក្នុងអតីកាល ប៉ុន្តែធ្វើក្នុងពេលបច្ចុប្បន្ន។ សូមមលើឧទាហរណ៍ខាងក្រោម៖ 

ROZA didn't use to hang out with friends. រ៉ូហ្សា មិនធ្លាប់ដែលដើរលេងក្រៅជាមួយមិត្តភក្តិទេ។

The sentence above means that in the past ROZA never hung out with her friends but now she does. She hangs out with her friend probable quit often. ក្នុងឧទាហរណ៍ខាងលើ មានន័យថា កាលពីមុនមក រ៉ុហ្សាពុំមានទម្លាប់ដើរលេង ក្រៅជាមួយមិត្តភក្តិទេ ប៉ុន្តែបច្ចុប្បន្ននេះ គឺនាងដើរលេងជាមួយមិត្តភក្តិ។ 

What are the four forms of " used to" ? 

Basically when it comes to grammar, there four basic forms learners have to remember or they will make mistakes in writing and speaking. The four fundamental forms are positive, negative, yes/no question and wh-question. Here are the four forms of " used to".

Positive : Sub + used to + base verb.

Negative : Sub + didn't use to + base verb.

Yes/No : Did + sub+ use to + base verb?
